Michael – the Inspirer

Michael arrived at Jericho with an extensive criminal record. He was known as someone not to be messed with.

As we started to get to know him, we began to learn about his life. As he told us some of his story, we began understand why a person can go off the rails. Michael like many others, hadn’t had great role models, instead he’d had people telling him that he was worthless from the day he was born.

After 3 or 4 months he came out of his shell and we hired him as a mentor. He joined the staff team, and became known as ‘Michael the Inspirer’ – because he was an inspiration, particularly to the 16-, 17-, 18-year-olds who were coming to Jericho. These young men had started to get into trouble and were known to the youth offending team. Michael supported them to turn their lives around and do something positive.
