Jericho Volunteer arranges 16-mile sponsored cycle in support of the Jericho Foundation Charity mission

Michael Colin, one of the volunteers at The ReUsers – Jericho’s amazing “ReUse, Recycle and Rebuild” Charity shop is arranging a relaxed paced cycle ride to take place on Monday 13th August, starting at 12:00 noon from Kingstanding to the Jericho headquarters in Balsall Heath and then back to Kingstanding and would love you to join in either as a participant or a supporter and help him to raise money to support the mission of the Jericho charity.

And, if you were worried about having a suitable bike to use, then the good news is that, if you have a Birmingham Leisure Card, then you can hire one for FREE from the starting point at Kingstanding! – just take your leisure card, proof of address and sign a one-day hire contract at Birmingham Cycle Revolution and they will arrange a one-day loan of a bike, free of charge.

You can, of course, use your own bike and, remember, the route is 16 miles, mainly alongside the River Rea canal (with about 15-20 minutes on the road), so it can be done at the pace you choose, so if it’s just a relaxed cycle run you are looking for, then this will be just the job, but, of course you can always cycle a little faster if the mood takes you!

The cycle route will stretch from Kingstanding Leisure/Wellbeing Centre (where there is bicycle hire) and will pass Brookvale Park, along the River Rea canal, past the Custard factory in Digbeth, into Calthorpe park.

…. Then it’s onward to the Jericho Headquarters at Edward Rd, Balsall Heath where Richard Beard, the CEO of Jericho will greet you for photos, say a few words and offer you a refreshing drink before you head off back along the reverse route back to Kingstanding Leisure Centre.

So, who does this help?

Jericho Foundation is a Birmingham Charity and Social Enterprise, whose mission is to help those people who have faced challenges, difficulties or barriers in their life, and these challenges have affected their own ability to get a job and find personal fulfilment.

Jericho breaks down these barriers. They build people up, encourage them and help them to discover their own skills and talents. They do this through providing a combination of work in a Jericho Social Enterprise and caring and encouraging support, helping people to overcome barriers and enabling them to flourish, grow and move forward in their lives.

So, by arranging this sponsored bike ride, Michael is hoping to raise some money towards supporting the mission of Jericho, a target of £300.

…Money that will help others, will provide support and will help break down barriers amongst those people who need it most.

So, Please

  • Join in with this sponsored ride,
  • Ask your friends and family to sponsor you or one of the other riders

  • Donate to the mission of Jericho

The cycle ride will take place on Monday 13th August, starting at 12:00 noon. To arrange sponsorship or support one of the riders, please contact Michael Colin by email
